The purpose of this Privacy Policy is to help you understand the Personal Information the Samueli Foundation (the “Foundation”, “we”, “us” or “our”) collects, why we collect it, and how you can update, manage and delete your Personal Information.
This Privacy Policy applies to your use of www.samueli.org (our “website”) and to other websites and applications this Privacy Policy references, as well as information you provide us through your participation in our events, your donation activity and your engagement with our newsletters or other communications (collectively, the “Services”). When you visit our website, donate, or register for events through the Foundation, you are consenting to the collection and processing of information as described in this Privacy Policy and are trusting us with your Personal Information. We appreciate your trust, and we work hard to continue to deserve it.
It is optional for you to engage in events and activities through the Foundation; however, if you choose to participate in our events or activities, we may require you to provide certain Personal Information. If you choose not to provide this information, we will not be able to register you for activities or events.
Please read this Privacy Policy CAREFULLY BEFORE ACCESSING AND USING THE SERVICES. We have provided explanations, examples, and definitions for key terms to make the Privacy Policy easier to understand. Additionally, you can manage your privacy preferences as explained below in the “Your Choices” section.

1. Changes to the Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy was last updated as of the date set forth above. It may be updated from time to time, so you may wish to review it each time you submit Personal Information to the Foundation. Your use of the Services constitutes your acceptance of this policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect Personal Information to improve your experience as a part of the Foundation community— from giving you directions to your seats at Foundation events to providing you with updates on future events and volunteer opportunities. The Personal Information we collect depends largely on your relationship to the Foundation and how you manage your privacy controls. The Personal Information we collect about you may include your name, your contact information, your billing information and information about the devices through which you access our website or other Services.
We also collect General Information when you visit our website and attend our events. General information includes browser characteristics, operating system and days and times a website user has accessed the website. Personal Information and General Information, when combined, may identify an individual person.
Contact Information
Contact Information is information you provide us. This includes, but is not limited to, your name, mailing address, email address, telephone number and/or school name and grade. We may receive and store this type of Personal Information when you contact us about donation opportunities, register for an event, apply for a job with us, or interact with our website and online content. Data such as your name and email address are necessary to confirm your participation in events and to communicate with you about changes in event schedules, weather-related cancellations and other similar announcements.
Applicant Information
If you apply for a job with us, certain Personal Information may be required by our Human Resources Department as part of our applicant screening process. For job applicants, there may be situations where we collect Personal Information from other sources, including background check agencies, recruitment agencies and academic institutions. Some of the information that we obtain from third party sources, in connection with conducting due diligence for employment, may be sensitive. For example, we may collect information relating to criminal convictions. We need this information for the purposes of complying with internal policies and to otherwise assess risks in the context of hiring you.
Financial Information
When you donate to the Foundation, in addition to your contact information, we will ask for your billing address, credit card and related financial information. The Foundation uses a third-party processor to process your payments.
Aggregated Data
We may aggregate, anonymize, pseudonymize, or de-identify Personal Information to create General Information, which is information that does not personally identify you or cannot be reasonably linked to you.
Automated Information Collection
When you use our website, we collect some information about you automatically, such as browser type and settings, device type and settings, your operating system, mobile network information including carrier name, application version number, your language preferences, dates and times of your visits to our website, pages you accessed on our website and clicks and impressions.
We may collect Personal Information about the interaction of your apps, browsers, and devices with our website, including IP address, unique device identifiers, crash reports, system activity, and the date, time, and referrer URL of your request. We collect some of this information when your device contacts our servers, as well as through our third-party analytics tool, Google Analytics.
We may collect Personal Information about you from our offline, as well as online, interactions with you. For example, we may collect Personal Information about you when you call our customer service number or visit our affiliated entertainment and event spaces. We may record or monitor telephone or video calls you have with us for quality control or training purposes, or to enforce our rights. When you participate in Foundation events or attend meetings at our offices, we may also record and monitor your activities using video, audio and facial recognition or recording systems.
Information from Third Parties
We may collect Personal Information about you from third party or publicly available sources or from our offline interactions with you.
We use various technologies, including Google Analytics, to collect and store information. These technologies may include cookies, pixel tags, local storage data cashes or application data caches, databases and server logs. Our websites do not currently change the way they operate upon detection of Do Not Track or similar signals.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics is a third-party website analytics tool provided by Google, Inc. that collects information about visitor traffic on our website. We use Google Analytics tracking technologies to analyze how you and others interact with our website. Google Analytics may collect information about you such as the time you visit our website, whether you are a return visitor, and any referring website. The information generated by Google Analytics will be transmitted to and stored by Google, Inc. and will be subject to Google, Inc.’s privacy policy. Provide our Services
We use your Personal Information to deliver and provide our Services, including issuing tickets for an event, processing donations or communicating with you about volunteer opportunities.
We also use your Personal Information to learn how you interact with our Services to improve our website and enhance user experience. We use the Personal Information we collect from our Services for the following purposes:
Measure performance of website and related online resources
We use your Personal Information for analytics and measurement to understand how our Services are used. For example, we analyze information about your use of our Services to do things like optimize our website design. We use a variety of tools to do this, including Google Analytics.

We use your Personal Information, like your email address and telephone number, to interact with you directly. For example, we may send you a notification to remind you about an upcoming event for which you are registered, or to let you know about upcoming changes or improvements to our Services. WE DO NOT SELL OR RENT PERSONAL INFORMATION, AND WE DO NOT SHARE PERSONAL INFORMATION WITH THIRD PARTIES FOR ADVERTISING PURPOSES. We also do not share Personal Information with companies, organizations, or individuals outside of our partners and affiliates except in the following cases:
Vendors, Service Providers, Recruiter Services
We may share Personal Information with our third-party service providers, suppliers, vendors, and trusted business partners, which may include IT service providers, financial institutions and payment providers, customer relationship management vendors, other cloud-based solutions providers, lawyers, accountants, auditors and other professional advisors. We require our vendors and advisers to ensure that they only process your Personal Information based on our instructions and in compliance with our Privacy Policy and any other security and confidentiality measures.
If you are a job applicant, in addition to the above, we may also share your Personal Information with our recruitment and HR support service providers and other professional advisors who assist with our hiring and recruitment process.
With your consent
We may share your Personal Information with third parties when you have provided us with your consent.

We may share Personal Information if we have a good-faith belief that access, use, preservation, or disclosure of the information is reasonably necessary to:

Email communications

Please note that certain emails may be necessary for the operation of our Services. You will continue to receive these emails, if appropriate, even if you unsubscribe from our options communications.
Calls and Texts
If you provide us with your telephone number in order to receive communications, you can opt-out of receiving calls or text messages at any time by simply asking us to stop or following the directions provided in our texts to you.
Do Not Track
Some devices and browsers support a “Do Not Track” feature, a setting which is used as a signal to services that you do not wish to be tracked across different websites or online services you visit. Please note that we cannot control how third-party websites or online services you visit through our websites respond to Do Not Track signals. 6. Storing Personal Information
We retain your Personal Information for different periods of time depending on what it is, why we collected it, how we use it, and how you configure your privacy preferences:
• Some of your data will be deleted or anonymized automatically after a set period of time, such as your activity on our website housed in our server logs.
• We keep some data until you delete your account, such as information about how often you use our Services.
• Some data we retain for longer periods of time when necessary for legitimate business or legal purposes, including security, fraud and abuse detection, or financial record-keeping.
7. Social Media
We may permit you to share some of our online content on social media websites through hosted share links and icons. If you choose to participate in posting or sharing activities, you should remember that it may be viewed by the public and may also be made available to other websites. 8. Children’s Privacy
Our Services are not for children or individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect Personal Information from children or individuals under 13 years of age. Individuals under the age of 13 should only use our Services with the permission and under the supervision of a parent or guardian. Individuals under the age of 13 should not attempt to provide us with any Personal Information. We have no control over, and are not responsible for, the actions and privacy policies of third parties and other websites and apps.
10. Data Transfers
Your Personal Information may be processed on servers located outside of the country where you live. Data protection laws vary among countries but regardless of where your Personal Information is processed, we apply the same protections described in this policy.
When we receive formal written complaints, we respond by contacting the person who made the complaint. We work with the appropriate regulatory authorities, including local data protection authorities, to resolve any complaints regarding the transfer of data that we cannot resolve with you directly.

12. Definitions
An application data cache is a data repository on a device. It can, for example, enable a web application to run without an internet connection and improve the performance of the application by enabling faster loading of content.
A cookie is a small text file that is sent to your computer when you visit a website. When you visit the site again, the cookie allows that site to recognize your browser. General Information is information about an individual that cannot be, by itself, used to identify that individual. Examples of General Information we collect include mobile device type, operating system and days and times someone accessed the website.

A pixel tag is a type of technology on a website or within the body of an email for the purpose of tracking certain activity, such as the views of a website or when an email is opened.
Referrer URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is information transmitted to a destination webpage by a web browser, typically when you click a link to that page. The Referrer URL contains the URL of the last webpage the browser or device visited.
Server logs record the page requests made when you visit our sites. Server logs typically include your web request, Internet Protocol address, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request, and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser.
Unique Identifier is a string of numbers and letters that may be used to uniquely identify a browser, app, or device. Each identifier is different -- some are temporary, some can be reset by the user, and some can be accessed by third parties. Unique identifiers can be used for a variety of purposes, including security and fraud detection, syncing across Services, remembering your preferences, and providing personalized offers.
